Developer guide

Use Ethiopian typefaces and logos with ordinary CSS, HTML and SVG. No Nidef package is needed.

Browse the catalog, check the asset's rights, then download the files you need. Designing instead? Read the Designer guide.

Self-host fonts

Open a typeface and choose Download Family. Keep its license with the files. Place a permitted web font in your site's public directory, then add a rule for each weight and style you use.

This example uses a placeholder filename. Replace the URL, family name, weight and style with your downloaded font's actual values. The typeface's Code tab also provides CSS for its available files.

@font-face {
  font-family: "My Ethiopic Font";
  src: url("/fonts/my-font.woff2") format("woff2");
  font-weight: 400;
  font-style: normal;
  font-display: swap;
}

.ethiopic-text {
  font-family: "My Ethiopic Font", sans-serif;
}
<p class="ethiopic-text" lang="am">ሰላም ኢትዮጵያ</p>

For cross-origin hosting, the font server must allow your site through CORS. Browser-only uploads must be exported and hosted before another device can use their files.

Use SVG logos

Open a logo and download the required variant, or use Copy SVG to bring it into a design tool. Serve the downloaded file from your own site and use meaningful alternative text.

<img src="/images/brand.svg" width="48" height="48" alt="Brand name">

Replace the example path and brand name with your asset. Available variants depend on the published artwork; baseline monograms are placeholders, not official brand logos.

Published catalog

Published deployments expose the current release at /api/v1/catalog. It points to an immutable manifest, which references the font and logo metadata and approved files.

Integrations should pin one release, trust only the configured asset origin, and verify the advertised byte lengths and SHA-256 digests before using its metadata. Refresh discovery explicitly to adopt a new release. See the catalog delivery documentation for the wire contracts and deployment requirements.

Licences

Nidef's source code is MIT. Fonts and artwork have separate terms; check each asset's license, attribution and usage guidance before redistributing or embedding it. An unlisted license does not grant permission to use a font, including in mockups. Logos may also be protected trademarks.
